I doesn’t have to be like this.
The bible is mostly about events which occured and stories that were told in the Middle East, and a lot of the people I talk to about theatre seem to think this sets the scene for all theatre in church.
Thankfully the leader of last night’s storytelling workshop was able to suggest otherwise to our participants, otherwise we may well have ended up with everyone wearing their parent’s dressing gown in the next presentation. (That wasn’t her only point, in fact she came up with some great ideas that I’ll use when I next have to prepare something)
But here’s another thought. Christmas presentations don’t have to involve dressing gowns either, so let’s assume your church doesn’t want a traditional nativity. How would you present a Christmas Theatre piece? .
How would you present it in a new way? What would you take as a main point?
